Summary of Changes

Hello @n-h-diaz, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request significantly streamlines the repository by eliminating all code and extensive documentation related to the deprecated datacommons and datacommons_pandas Python client libraries. The changes ensure that users are clearly directed towards the modern datacommons-client for their Data Commons API interactions, reducing maintenance overhead and clarifying the project's active components.

Highlights

  • Removal of Deprecated Python Clients: The entire datacommons and datacommons_pandas Python client codebases, including their core functionalities, examples, utilities, and tests, have been completely removed from the repository.
  • Updated Documentation and Guidance: A new top-level README.md has been added to direct users to the actively maintained datacommons-client. The README.md files for the now-removed datacommons and datacommons_pandas packages have been replaced with concise deprecation notices.
  • Streamlined Release Process: Obsolete release instructions for the deprecated datacommons and datacommons_pandas packages have been removed from the docs/release.md file, simplifying the project's release documentation.
