Lost at the template syntax

Can somone help me out to understand how Nue plays together with Javascript? I don't want to build a SPA, just do some simple data manipulation. I feel like I tried everthing from the docs and nothing works as described. Even when just copying the exact docs example.

Let's say I want to grab the date from <meta name="date.updated" content="2025-07-29T03:27:57.567Z"> in a function to format it and then use the function result in a page/component.

Where to put what and how?
